About

We are activists who enthusiastically accept the challenge to make our community a more satisfying place in which to live. Over the past few years, we have witnessed our community’s economic vitality improve as the arts and cultural opportunities have increased. To continue that trend, we have created the Art in Public Places program, with the goal of commissioning permanent outside public artwork installations in Fifty locations across the community.

We want the program delivery method to follow an “artist workshop” model, whereby professional artists will be invited to Buckhannon to utilize locally available studio space and equipment, and will design and execute their artwork alongside hands-on participants from the community. This will be a fun and educational opportunity that will engage the community in a creative and collaborative process and will transform and strengthen our community through the creation of Public Art.

Given that this program has identified 50 locations for artwork to be installed, we anticipate working with an equal number of artists. As such, this multi-year program will require our continued focus and attention to successfully complete.

The information provided on this site presents the proposed locations chosen throughout Buckhannon, as well as letters of support from local government, community organizations, and businesses. All of this information will be regularly updated as the program is implemented and each artwork is successfully installed.

We look forward to becoming a model for many other small communities who wish to reinvigorate their town!
